Size Adjustment
On this page, we explain which rings can be resized, what services are included, and how a resizing affects warranty and repair coverage.
Important: This voluntary Velur policy applies in addition to your statutory rights. Statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.
Scope of Application
Size adjustments apply to rings purchased from Velur. Solitaire rings can generally be resized. For rings with side stones, all-around stones, or particularly intricate settings, the possibility of resizing depends on the design, the condition of the ring, and the desired size difference.
A size adjustment is not a remanufacture or a design change. If a safe adjustment is not possible, Velur may refuse the adjustment or recommend a remanufacture.
Costs and Deadlines
| Case | Regulation | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Size Adjustment | Free of charge within 180 days of delivery. | Applies only once to rings that can be resized. |
| After 180 days | Paid service subject to review. | You'll receive a cost estimate in advance. |
| Second or Subsequent Adjustment | Paid service subject to review. | Repeated adjustments can put additional strain on the bezel and settings. |
| Non-customizable designs | Sizing cannot be adjusted. | In such cases, it may be necessary to have a new one made. |
Which rings can be resized
| Ring Type | Adaptability | Typical range | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solitaire Rings | Always customizable. | Up to 3 sizes. | Applies to classic solitaire rings without side stones. If there is visible damage or the ring has been altered by a third party, we will inspect its condition beforehand. |
| Simple rings without stones | Customizable. | Up to 3 sizes. | Resizing is usually straightforward, provided the ring has not been damaged or altered by a third party. |
| Accent, pavé, and floral designs | Subject to change after review. | Usually 1 to 2 sizes. | Side stones and delicate settings can be damaged by significant changes in size. That is why we inspect these designs more closely in advance. |
| Eternity rings with stones set all around the band | Not customizable. | Not applicable. | Changing the size would structurally compromise the surrounding settings and the arrangement of the stones. |
If you're unsure which ring type applies to your model, just send us a quick email with your order number or a photo of the ring.
Warranty After a Size Adjustment
The voluntary Velur warranty against defects in materials and workmanship remains in effect if the size adjustment was performed by Velur and falls within the technically recommended limits.
However, the warranty does not cover general wear and tear, deformation, impact damage, pressure damage, normal wear and tear, or subsequent loss of stones that are not due to a verifiable defect in materials or workmanship.
Adjustment outside the recommended limits
If a size adjustment beyond the recommended limits is requested, Velur may refuse to make the adjustment. If such an adjustment is nevertheless carried out following individual consultation, warranty claims for damage related to this excessive adjustment may be void.
Modification by Third Parties
If a ring is resized or repaired by an outside goldsmith, jeweller, or another workshop, warranty coverage for the affected areas may be void. This applies in particular to damage to the ring band, settings, prongs, accent stones, or solder joints resulting from work performed by a third party.
Loosening or loss of stones after an adjustment
If a stone becomes loose or falls out after a resizing, Velur will review each case individually. The determining factor is whether the issue is due to a defect in the material, workmanship, or fitting, or whether the damage was caused by use, impact, pressure, deformation, wear and tear, or third-party alterations.
A free replacement or repair will only be provided if the inspection determines that the damage is due to a defect for which Velur is responsible. In all other cases, you will receive a cost estimate before the repair is performed.
For older rings or rings with visible signs of wear, an additional inspection or repair may be necessary before resizing. Velur may refuse to resize the ring if the risk to the settings or stones is too high.
What Is Not Covered
The free initial resizing and the voluntary warranty do not cover the following cases in particular:
- Damage caused by impact, pressure, dropping, or deformation of the ring.
- Injuries caused by sports, strength training, manual labor, gardening, or sleeping while wearing a ring.
- Damage caused by cleaning agents, chlorine, chemicals, or improper care.
- Normal signs of wear, scratches, wear and tear, or changes in the material resulting from use.
- Damage resulting from processing, repair, or resizing by third parties.
- Multiple resizing operations or changes that are not technically recommended.
- Custom-made rings, model changes, or modifications to the ring's design.
