Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 0.5-carat diamond cost?

That depends on the shape, color, clarity, and origin. Each stone has its own price, including sales tax. If you sort by “Price (ascending),” you’ll see the least expensive stones first.

How big is a 0.5-carat diamond?

When round, it measures approximately 5.1 mm in diameter; when oval, approximately 6.1 × 4.5 mm; when emerald-cut, approximately 5.6 × 4.0 mm; when cushion-cut, approximately 4.4 × 4.4 mm; and when pear-shaped, approximately 6.7 × 4.4 mm. The exact dimensions are listed for each stone.

What level of quality is worth it for a 0.5-carat diamond?

At this size, color and inclusions are less noticeable than in larger stones. A color grade of G to H and a clarity grade of SI1 to VS2 are a good starting point. For round stones, an “Excellent” cut is worth the investment; it has a greater impact on the stone’s sparkle than the color grade.

Is a 0.5-carat diamond enough for an engagement ring?

It's a matter of personal taste. On slender fingers, a round 0.5-carat stone looks striking, while on larger hands it appears more delicate. To see how it looks on you, check out the "On the Hand" view on many gemstone websites.

Lab-grown diamond or natural diamond?

Lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds are both composed of pure carbon and share the same crystal structure, hardness, and refractive index. The difference lies in their formation: one forms over millions of years in the Earth’s mantle, the other in a matter of weeks in a laboratory. Visually, they are indistinguishable without specialized laboratory equipment. Lab-grown diamonds are significantly less expensive than comparable natural diamonds, which is why, with the same budget, you can often get more carats or a higher clarity grade. Both types come with a laboratory certificate from us; you can look up the report number directly with the laboratory.
